Morrisonite jasper

Morrisonite jasper

34x13mm

A rare, no-longer-mined jasper from the Morrison Ranch area in the Owyhee Mountains (Oregon–Idaho border). Formed in rhyolitic volcanic rock, it’s known for its tight painterly patterns, fine lines, orbs, and strong color contrast. Colors range from sage green and gold to rust, cream, mauve, and deep teal. With a hardness of ~6.5–7, it’s a dense, stable material ideal for cabochons. Because the deposit is closed and no new rough is produced, high-grade Morrisonite is highly collectible and each piece is one-of-a-kind.
