BC Ocean Stone is a semi-precious, silica-based material found in jasperized and chalcedonic deposits across British Columbia. It formed through hydrothermal silica infiltration, when silica-rich fluids gradually replaced the original sedimentary host rock over millions of years. This process created a dense body of microcrystalline quartz with striking banding, brecciation, and scenic “ocean-like” color zoning.
The stone is collected from scattered deposits, primarily along coastal and interior river systems where these ancient silica flows once permeated the rock. It occurs in small seams and nodules within jasperized zones or as brecciated material, making each piece unique. Unlike large-scale commercial agate or jasper deposits, BC Ocean Stone is found only in limited quantities and is usually collected by hobby miners and rockhounds rather than through industrial quarrying.
